10 Things You Don’t Have To Do For A Successful New Year

By

As a new year approaches, many people are starting to think about goals for next year. Most lists will tell you all the things you should do to have a good year, but this list is a little different. This one tells you what not to do. Yes, you read that right. Here are ten things you don’t have to do to have a good year. Cheers to a successful 2019!

1. Don’t cry about it anymore

Someone broke up with you. You lost a friendship that was important to you. You didn’t land that dream gig you tried so hard for. This 2019, leave all negativity behind and set new goals. You’ll go on first dates, you’ll meet new friends, and you’ll have other, better options for work. Don’t let what happened in 2018 set the mood for 2019.

2. Don’t set unrealistic goals for yourself

Dreaming big is a great way to push yourself to work harder, no doubt. However, telling yourself that in 2019 you have to win a Grammy, an Oscar and retire is a bit far-fetched. Set realistic goals for yourself and work hard on them. Before you know it, you will have achieved so much more than what you set out to originally.

3. Don’t say no all the time

Some friends invite you out, but you’d rather sit on your tush and watch Netflix all night. Yes, Netflix binges are life, but life is also meant to be lived. Go out. Have fun. Be social.

4. Don’t say yes all the time

Some friends invite you out, but you’d rather sit on your tush and watch Netflix all night. Yes, hanging with friends and drinking $18 cocktails are a part of life, but you also need to take care of you. Stay in. Have quiet time. Be antisocial. It’s your God-given right to do it sometimes.

5. Don’t let fear control your life

You get invited to a party, but you won’t know very many people there. Go anyway. You’ve always wanted to go rock climbing, but you’re not sure of you have what it takes. Go anyway. The guy you run into every morning on the train platform smiles at you. Talk to him! Don’t let fears and insecurity run your life.

6. Don’t give up on your health goals

You have some pounds to lose, you have some pounds to gain. You have stomach issues, skin issues, foot issues, depression issues. Don’t ignore them. If 2019 is the year for a better you, do not give up on feeling better. Having your health in check will help you achieve all the other amazing things you have planned.

7. Don’t sell yourself short

Ask for a raise. Don’t let people who say love you treat you with anything less than love. Don’t date someone you know is not treating you the way you deserve just because you don’t want to be lonely again. Only you can decide what your worth is. Make sure everyone else knows it too.

8. Don’t blow your wad on worthless junk

You already have shoes you can wear. You already have tons of outfits and you already have makeup. Think about your future. Think about the amazing places you could visit if you saved more money for travel. Don’t spend your money on the fleeting things that this world offers us. Spend your money on creating moments and memories. When you’re on your deathbed, you’re going to think about the amazing time you had, not on the amazing shoes you bought.

9. Don’t sweat the small things

Your coworker didn’t say good morning to you. Your train was late. It raining and you just got a blow out. Don’t sweat it! Little things can ruin our day, but only if we allow life’s little inconveniences take charge. Smile anyway! Life isn’t so bad.

10. Don’t forget to write things down

Write out your goals, because a list keeps you accountable. Write a handwritten thank you to someone who gave you a hand. Write your significant other a love note. Write, write, write! If it’s written, it counts so much more.
