12 Reasons Why You’re Still Working A Shit Job In Your Twenties
1. You’re independent. You aren’t going to try to take the easy way out by begging your parents for money or marrying rich. You’re capable of taking care of yourself. You don’t need anyone’s help to create a life you love.
2. You realize it takes time to achieve your dreams. You haven’t given up on your goals. You just understand that quitting your job to become a full-time starving artist isn’t the best idea. You’re planning on pursuing your dreams, but in the meantime, you need a source of income.
3. You’re still young. When you were in single digits, you thought 25-year-olds were ancient. But now, you see them for what they are. Oversized kids struggling to adult. That’s why it’s okay if you don’t have it all together yet. Most people don’t — even in their 30s.
4. You’re a badass. It takes strength to deal with the same shitty boss and customer complaints day after day. But you do it. You tough it out.
5. You aren’t ashamed. Any job is better than being unemployed. Even if other people look down at you for your line of work, you’re not ashamed. You’re making money — even if it’s not much money. That’s something to be proud of.
6. You’re doing it all on your own. You aren’t friends with the “right” people. You aren’t going to be offered a high-paying job, because you “knew someone.” You aren’t getting anything handed to you — and that’s the way you want it.
7. You were raised right. You were taught to appreciate everything you have, even if it isn’t as glamorous as what your friends have. You’re proud of the crappy car you bought and the tiny apartment you live in. After all, you earned it with your own money.
8. You’re still growing. Maybe you’re not ready for your dreams to come true. Maybe you still have some learning to do. Maybe you need a little more time before the right opportunities approach you.
9. You care about your future. As much as you’d love to blow your paychecks on vacations across the globe, you understand the importance of money. Of saving for a place to live and car to drive. You’re constantly working, because playing isn’t an option.
10. You know that life isn’t always easy. That you’re not going to be handed your dream job on a silver platter. That you have to wade through crap before you can come out successful.
11. You’re working your way up. No one starts at the top of the career ladder. You start small and climb a rung at a time. It could take months. It could takes years. But you aren’t letting that distress you.
12. You have hope. Even though your days currently consist of cleaning up spills and answering phone calls, you know that eventually, you’re going to quit this shit job and start your dream job. It’s only a matter of time.
