13 Words Of Advice About Style From Rihanna
By Kat George
Last night Rihanna went out in Paris wearing only a sheer top. No bra. Nipples out. So why should you take fashion advice from someone a) as shamelessly hot as Rihanna b) as brazenly naked as Rihanna? Because girl does not have any fucks to give. Which is generally a great way to approach a wardrobe, and life generally. So here are some pearls of sartorial wisdom from our favorite RiRi, who just says everything exactly like it is. Note to everyone: I will henceforth be liberally applying the use of “bomb dot com” wherever pertinent.
On deciding what to do with your boobs:
If I’m wearing a top, I don’t wear a bra. If I’m wearing a bra, I just wear a bra.
On deciding what to wear to a house party:
Pants are always a good idea for house parties. Never know which stoop or sidewalk you might be sitting on!! Unless of course it’s a super sophisticated setting…
On comparing yourself to other people:
You just want something else that someone else has, but that doesn’t mean what you have isn’t beautiful, because people always want what you have, and you always want what they have – no one is ever 100 per cent like, ‘Yes, I’m the bomb dot com – from head to toe!’
On being a boss bitch:
Wear the clothes. Don’t let them wear you.
On self acceptance:
Over the holidays, and even during filming, I realized that I actually like my body, even if it’s not perfect according to the book. I just feel sexy. For the first time, I don’t want to get rid of the curves. I just want to tone it up. My body is comfortable, and it’s not unhealthy, so I’m going to rock with it.
On high heels:
Not everyday you feel like tiptoeing your way around but not every outfit can handle a flat.
On denim jackets:
U wont regret it! You cud wear it every day.
On the fashion industry’s pressure to be thin:
Being a size zero is a career in itself so we shouldn’t try and be like them, it is not realistic and it is not healthy. You shouldn’t be pressured into trying to be thin by the fashion industry, because they only want models that are like human mannequins. They know that if we see an outfit on a mannequin in a shop window we will love it and want to buy it whatever size we are. That’s why they have size zero models – they want to sell clothes. But you have to remember that it’s not practical or possible for an everyday woman to look like that.
On her GQ shoot and the virtues of wearing a snake as a bra:
Crazy part is that snake really stayed on my nipple and squeezed it like a push up bra.
On her ultimate style icon:
You know who is the best who ever did it? Princess Diana. She was like – she killed it. Every look was right. She was gangster with her clothes. She had these crazy hats. She got over-size jackets. I loved everything she wore!
On the story your clothes tell:
I love reading people. I really enjoy watching, observing, and being able to figure out a person, the reason they wore that dress, the reason they smell the way they do.
On challenges:
I just love a challenge, whether it’s a relationship, my career, clothing.
On her blessings:
I have too many clothes, I have too many options.
