15 Simple Ways You Can Help Change The World In 2015
By Liz Rae
Changing the world doesn’t only mean starting a revolution, a protest, or having tons of money to donate or adopt children. Changing the world can mean anything from helping a person who can’t help themselves to building a house for someone in need. Each task can lead to a bigger result than intended. This year, make it a goal to find simple ways to help change the world for a better place because the world could use a little saving.
1. Say Thank You
Words are powerful. When was the last time you heard someone tell you thank you for a task? Tell someone thank you, as much as you can, even for something minimal. It may not matter to you, but it may matter to them. Notice the kind things people do, and show you appreciate them.
2. Donate a Little Each Month
Donating a lot at once seems really daunting and consuming. Donating just a little bit of time or money a month can add up over time and change the course of someone’s life. It seems like just money, but somewhere, someone needs that money to feed their children or build their business.
3. Pay it Forward
Paying it forward doesn’t have to be done right after someone does it for you. It could mean randomly paying for someone’s meal or leaving a note for someone that doesn’t know you. It’s been mentioned before, but it can be mentioned again. Doing something unexpected for someone can totally change someone’s day, and maybe even change someone’s life.
4. Strengthen Your Friendships
We take our friendships for granted, as if our friends are always going to be there. We will die someday! It’s crazy to think that! So strengthen your friendships. Don’t let work be the reason you can’t see people. Contact your friends all of the time because if you do that for them, they will do the same thing for their other friends.
5. Let go of the negativity
It doesn’t matter what the negativity pertains to. If you don’t like someone, get them out of your life. If you don’t like your job, quit. If you are sick of people’s selfies on Facebook, block their stories. If you’re negative, the people around you are negative. Get the negativity out of your life in order to help get the negativity out of others.
6. Share your success
This doesn’t have to be money-wise. Let people into your life to see what you are doing. Let people be happy with you and for you, but also be happy for them as well. Sometimes we get so caught up in what we are doing that we forget to share this success with others. If someone helped you, thank them. Be a mentor. Teach others. Do what you can to share your success so others can be successful too.
7. Be creative
Sharing your creativity is an easy way for people to experience happiness, joy, pain. Works of art are how we relate to others human beings without interaction. It comforts us. There can never be enough creativity in this world.
8. Pick a cause
Find something you are passionate about helping and go for it. Everyone should have a cause to help with, no matter how big or small the cause. Tie your name to curing or saving something.
9. Throw a party
You can easily throw a party to help an organization. A lot of organizations even have party hosting tips, ways to donate, and party themes and tunes. If you’re already someone who parties, this shouldn’t be a hard task to do and can easily help save lives.
10. Step out of your comfort zone
When you step out of your comfort zone, you are making yourself vulnerable. You are allowing someone else to teach you something else. Let someone help you so you can later help them.
11. Sponsor a child
Sponsoring a child has been one of the best experiences of my life, because I feel so much more connected to the donations that I am giving. I feel like I am truly impacting a life. You can also do the same. Even if it’s just one life, it makes all the difference.
12. Express your thoughts
Thoughts should not go unheard. If you keep your thoughts inside, it only builds resentment towards others or towards what could have been. Tell someone your idea, tell someone how you feel. It can be good or bad, but it may change your life and another’s for the better.
13. Be passionate and curious about everything
There are not enough people in the world that are passionate about what they are doing. You may be at the lowest point of your life, but if you’re passionate about the projects you are working on, you can easily pass that energy onto others. Staying curious will also lead others to be challenged to the same thing. Be curious about learning more and share the knowledge with others. A more educated and excited world is a better world.
14. Share your story
All of us have pasts. All of us have things that have been difficult and stressful for us. Share your history. There is someone out there that is going through the same thing you went through, and to share that empathy with someone else could change or even save their life. The best way to relate to others is to feel out their situation. People that are going through rough times are people that haven’t found a similar story to relate to. You can save a life by sharing your background.
15. Be true to yourself and do what you love
Les Brown once said, “The wealthiest place on the planet is the graveyard.” It is one thing to work to make a living but another to live for your work. You can change the world by bringing your ideas out of your head and following what you want to do. Don’t sacrifice your life for someone else in 2015. The greatest companies in the world wouldn’t exist if their owners didn’t take a risk. Our earth wouldn’t be where it is now without their ideas. So next year, take a risk, be who you want, and do the things you are passionate about.
