3 Powerful Motivators You Might Need To Leave Your Comfort Zone

By

The new year brings about renewed hope and determination to everyone who believes in the magic of new beginnings. This year, I have made one of the most impossible decisions of my life, leaving my comfort zone. The last five years, I have dedicated my time working day in and out in the entertainment media industry. And each day I spent seemed better than the last that it honestly never felt like work. But as I turn 26, and in the spirit of turning over a new leaf, I figured that it is high time to explore new horizons and challenge myself even more by starting over and making new things happen for myself. And, it is time for you to listen to listen to that irking voice wishing for change.

If you’re at a point where you’re contemplating whether it’s time to take chances and venture into the unknown, here are some points that I wish would help you make that call.

1. Don’t Miss Life’s Tickets

We live in a world that pushes the idea of a structured living to a point that defying the standard set is frowned upon. We tend to take cues from people preceding our steps in the corporate ladder, in the four corners of our homes and our spheres of our influence. It makes the best of us question the thought of exploration, of indulging ourselves to non-confirmative decisions and uninvited risks. That when we make choices that challenge the status quo we always get questioning stares, lingering judgements and a barrage of unsolicited advice. But, get this, we also get tickets to all the unexplored opportunities and mistakes that life has to offer. It is high time to celebrate our choices and mistakes free from the shackles of the normative definition of living well. It is high time to take life’s ticket and forge through all the experiences we have yet to know. The world is bigger than we think and journey never stops at a certain age.

2. Life Is Meant To Be Satisfyingly Complicated

We always veer away from everything that is construed to be complicated. On most occasions, we go for what is collectively achieved, made and agreed on — that we miss the opportunity to welcome new insights. The mold taught us to live by the cornerstones of what constitutes success, of how life is supposed to be lived, of what makes for a sound decision — all in the vain hope of living a “fulfilled” life. Guess what, life is meant to be satisfyingly complicated! And, until we recognize this inescapable truth, we are bound to live just to and fro inside the box we made for ourselves.

3. The Wayne Gretzky and Les Brown Wisdom

Wayne Gretzky said, “You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take.”

Les Brown said, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”

In the grand scheme of things, life is composed of chances and ironically enough it is a scarce commodity that only presents itself when we least expect it. And on most occasions, we let it pass thinking that when we need it most, it would once again come around. Maybe Les Brown and Gretzky grabbed a burger on a stand and talked about aiming for the gold because, I think that the quotes they have coined coincides with each other. Believe that when you get the chance, shoot for the moon, even if you fail you’ll land among the stars. Pessimists, disguising as realists would argue these sayings but the only opinion you should only account for is yours.

Even plants break away from the structures of their pots. Blooming and branching out is essential to reach one’s full potential, anything less than this results to stagnation and an unimagined future. It doesn’t go without saying that you cannot blossom where you are, it’s just a matter of how much you want to go further. If you’re currently situated in a spot of continuous growth, never stray away from it, only when it no longer serve the purpose you desire. Don’t settle for anything less than the hopeful shine of tomorrow’s possibilities.
