4 Powerful Women That Inspire Me

By

Of course, most of us have been and are still inspired by our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, and other female members of our family. So instead of talking about all the great things my mother and grandmother have taught me (because they are my family so I am biased and obviously say they inspire me) I will talk about some famous women you all have at least (at least I hope you have) heard of at one point in your life.

Angela Merkel

“I never underestimated myself. And I never saw anything wrong with ambition.”

This woman is the shit. She is the most powerful woman in the world right now, leading the country with the best economy in Europe while most of the other countries in Europe have been slowly falling apart.

She isn’t necessarily attractive or married to some famous guy like Michelle Obama and Hilary Clinton are; I actually had to look up the name of my own country’s chancellor husband’s name (that’s how famous he is…not). Considering she got her Ph.D. in Physics she must be a pretty smart woman but yet she comes off as a very humble person (apparently she lives in some small apartment with her non-famous husband). Can you imagine Obama living in a small apartment with Michelle? I can’t. She could use a new hair cut and some other clothes but blazers, but hey, everyone loves her anyways; she has been elected since 2005 so why change anything?

So yes, she definitely inspires me. She had to deal with angry European people who were mad that she asked them to maybe start saving their money a little, she got compared to Hitler multiple times (excuse you?) but yet she never seems to lose her confidence.

She inspired me because she is probably one of the most ambitious woman there is and proves that you don’t need to have a famous, rich guy to get what you want because in the end all you need is your own brain, ambition, self-control, confidence, and not giving a shit what other people think.

Lorelei Gilmore

“It’s all any of us wants, to find a nice person to hang out with ‘til we drop dead. Not a lot to ask!”

Yes, I know she is not “real” but whoever loves Gilmore Girls knows exactly what I am talking about. Lorelei just rocks, or whoever created her character. She is a single mom most of the time, who goes on many dates with many different dudes but just doesn’t seem to find the right one. I am not going to spoil the end for those of you who haven’t watched it yet (btw, YOU NEED TO WATCH IT!!!). Seeing her happy as a clam being single and not giving up on love gives me 24 year old single hope to eventually find love on tinder (lol).

Coco Chanel

“Keep your heels, head, and standards high”

I’m sure you all have heard this quote before and it is definitely one of my favorites out there because it is so true. If you don’t think you should have high standards, then why should other people? She inspires me because she didn’t care that people thought she was weird for liking wearing men clothes, which she “borrowed” from her lovers’ closets. (Another bold move I just love). Yes, all these gorgeous Chanel clothes you can buy now were once inspired by menswear. Her story once again proves that not giving a shit about other people’s opinions is helpful in getting what you want. I mean Coco had absolutely nothing at first, started to wear men clothes, cut her hair, which was just not ok back then, had an affair with a young playboy who sponsored her business (I mean a girl got to do what she got to do) and became one of the most popular and famous designer in the history of fashion.

Anne Frank

“Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart.”

She is definitely the woman (or girl) that inspires me the most. Whenever I am down for whatever first word problem, I think about Anne Frank and how she had to hide in the house her father used to work in. She was trapped in there with her family for 2 years not allowed to make a single noise during the day fearing someone could hear them and report them to the Nazis. Imagine being trapped in a tiny apartment with your family that you can’t leave for 2 years just to be eventually betrayed by some assholes and to get transporter to Auschwitz just a couple month before the war ended? I can’t imagine (I actually went to her house in Amsterdam and just being in there for 5 minutes gave e anxiety that’s how small it is) and I admire her for not going completely insane and instead writing down her story for us first world problem people. So whenever you are down because some guy doesn’t text you back, think about little Anne and how she didn’t have a phone or boys she could be upset about because again she was stuck in an apartment for 2 years scared that the Nazis find her and the family.

Also, the fact the she wrote down this quote despite all of the terrible things that happened to her is another reason why she inspires me so much.
