5 Definitive Signs That Ron Swanson Is Your Spirit Animal
By Sara Uzer
It’s difficult for me to pick one favorite character on Parks And Recreation, since all of them are amazing in their own perfectly weird ways. However, I would be lying if I said that Ron Swanson hasn’t made me cry of laughter on more than one occasion.
While you may not share his hardcore meat obsession or his proclivity to date crazy women named Tammy, here are 5 signs that you and Ron Swanson are still pretty much the same person:
1. You’re a total realist – and never waste time with the bullshit.
You’re not one to sugar coat things. So when your BFF just needs to be straight up told, “he’s just not that into you”, you will gladly do the honors. You have no time to deal with happy-go- lucky people (like Chris Traeger), because you have a realistic view of the world and the people in it.
2. Most of the time, you just want people to leave you alone.
When you make an attempt to be social, you quickly remember that you hate everyone and would rather be at home watching TV. Jobs that require people skills are your worst nightmare, because you have none and are incapable of faking it. Also, even the mere thought of small talk makes you physically uncomfortable and noticeably angry.
3. You hate getting drawn into any gossip or drama, because you just care so little.
It’s not even that gossip upsets you – you’re just not interested in other people’s lives. Rumors go in one ear and out the other. People don’t need to tell you not to tell anyone, because you’ve already purposefully blocked out what was said.
4. You appreciate the simple things in life – and because of that, you’re pretty easy to please.
That lack of excitement you seem to be constantly sporting? It’s not only because you dislike the people you’re with (which is still a factor), but it’s more that you would just prefer doing something low key.
Therefore, you would never dream of participating in (or worse, planning) an elaborate activity-filled evening for you and your significant other. Going on dates at the same 3 restaurants on a consistent basis? Perfection.
5. You always seem super tough, but are secretly a softie for the people you care about.
Beyond the sarcasm, dead serious facial expression, and inability to hide your distaste for most things, you’re also a genuinely supportive and loyal friend. (Of course, you would never admit to this – because it makes you seem weak.)
While you don’t typically enjoy things that require effort, you will always put in the time if it involves helping out a friend or co-worker in need. Plus, if it gives you an excuse to be an asshole, you’re all for it.
You’re not one to seek out multiple friendships (as Ron himself says, “Friends: One to three is sufficient”), but you value the ones that you do have – and it shows.
