5 Things All Of Humanity Should Agree Upon

By

1. There is nothing better than breakfast for dinner.

Scrambled eggs sided with toast and jelly. Maybe pancakes, syrup, and some strawberries. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so why not make it part of your day twice?

2. The book is always better than the movie.

I honestly cannot think of a book that has been outdone by a movie. Whenever a book is adapted into a movie, the best parts of the work are snipped out left and right. Holding the book (or kindle/iPad) in your hand and soaking in the words leaves you feeling whole. (However, the popcorn from a movie can leave you feeling quite whole too.)

3. There is a first time, a last time, and the right time for everything.

You have your first kiss, first time seeing snow, first go at riding a bike; last time going to class, last time sleeping in your parent’s house, last time at your job before retirement – then, there is the right time. In the right moment, you meet someone. In the right situation, you fall in love. The right time is never one of predisposition or forethought. It falls into your lap like a gift from God saying, “I’m looking out for you. This is good for you. And I want you to have this — now.”

4. We all have a song that takes us to that place, time, or person.

It may be “Beat it” by Michael Jackson, “Shut Up and Dance” by WALK THE MOON, or “Drops of Jupiter” by Train. A verse of one of these songs plays and instantly your mind goes to the location where you and your best friend sang karaoke all night long. The chorus might take you to your high school dance, where you and your sweetheart slow-danced for the first time. Most often, a song takes you to a specific person. And the song transports you to the associated feeling. Music is powerful and nostalgia is just weird.

5. Life is a Beautiful Mess.

You may be having a bad hair day, you may have spilt coffee down your new blouse, or perhaps you’re experiencing a combination of the two. But the heads up penny on the sidewalk, cute barista’s phone number, and 20 dollar bill you found in an old pair of jeans balances it all out. Anyone can relate to riding the rainbow roller coaster of emotions in a matter of days (or hours). You can be on cloud 9 and then drop off to the center of the earth because of a bad day at work or a simple text you most likely misinterpreted.

While we are all so different in the way we view the world and each other, at the end of the day we should be able to honestly attest that being alive is something to celebrate. Even if the mess is really messy, it’s the little things in life that make it beautiful.
