5 Things You Seriously Do Not Need To Talk About In A Relationship
By Isis Nezbeth
When you’re in a committed relationship you’re supposed to be able to talk to your partner about everything, but that doesn’t mean you should talk to your parter anything. Some people may not agree and if you and your partner are open about literally anything—more power to you. If your partner is anything like me though, here are 5 things you seriously don’t need to talk about in your relationship. Let’s get into it!
1. Poop
Yes, it’s said that you’re truly comfortable with your partner once you’re able to fart around them, but do you really have to talk about sh*t? I don’t need to know when you go or where you go.
2. Exes
Want to drive your relationship into the ground? Talk about your ex all the time. When you talk about your ex it’s usually to compare something they did with what your current partner is doing—which is always a bad idea. They are your ex for a reason. Even if there is no bad blood between you and your ex, you shouldn’t be discussing them with your current partner. This may not be such a sore subject for men (I do believe it is though), but for women it’s definitely the last thing she wants to hear about.
3. Drama
Your drama or someone else’s, it really doesn’t matter. Don’t discuss drama in your relationship. It’s usually just a trail to a topic that you two will end up arguing about anyway. If that’s not reason enough just remember that if you’re not a part of the solution, you’re a part of the problem.
4. The Past
Timon and Pumbaa told us, “You’ve got to learn to put the past behind ya,” and that is one of the greatest life lessons you’ll ever learn. Let the past be the past. Carry the good memories in your heart, but let them chill there. No need to keep bringing them up. In all actuality, we are a lot more likely to bring up negative past experiences over positive ones anyway, so do yourself the favor and be in the moment. Focus on the present.
5. He Says/She Says
I don’t think there is a more ridiculous argument than one that is based solely on what someone else said. This may be hard for some couples—especially if someone they trust said it—but it is so completely necessary to refrain from arguing about “he say, she say.” You have to pick and choose your battles and this one just isn’t worth it. Trust me.
There’s a hundred and one good things to talk about when you’re in a relationship like new sex positions to try or how many kids you want in the future. What do ya say we leave these 5 things out of the picture? Happy chatting!
