6 Lessons You Can Learn About Life From Your Dog
By Autumn Love
1. Welcome people with a warm salutation.
Dogs are known to greet the people they know with wagging tails, huge “smiling” faces, and plenty of cuddles and kisses. For us humans, we tend to forget to put those cheerful grins when we see someone we know, especially when our mood and day aren’t going so well. No matter what we are doing and feeling, we should always keep in mind to wear our happy expressions when we encounter the people close to our hearts. Remember, showing someone you are pleased to see them is a simple yet genuine way to show how you appreciate their presence.
2. Make each day special in your own simple way.
Having a bad day? Tired of the old routine? Do something different to spice things up! Dogs are curious creatures who love to sniff around and explore their surroundings. They’ll always find a way to discover newfound objects, scents, and whatnots that entices their interest, even when they have already been to that same street or park you take them to. So why not take a stop at that new café you always pass by on your route to work or school to buy yourself a treat or give yourself a short break by walking around to sightsee or stay at a place where you can relax for a while. You’ll never know what you may find that will draw your attention.
3. Be patient in telling AND reminding someone what you want them to do and what you don’t.
When dogs misbehave, people tend to be annoyed and lose patience when their furry companions do their mistakes over again. Dogs need conditioning and practice in order to retain good behaviors and halt the bad ones. For people like us, constant reminders are a must to stop someone from continuing unlikable actions and attitudes, and transforming them into better ones. Don’t forget to also be patient when encouraging someone to change their ways. Being angry will only lead to conflict, confusion, and discouragement.
4. Calmly say the things that bother you about the person.
Furiously shouting at your fur ball friends’ faults will only lead to fear. Similarly, humans who get shouted at would only feel belittled rather than see what they can do to change themselves. Explaining with composure can help you transmit your message clearly and allow the other person to better understand you.
5. Let the other person do what they can to make your day right.
When things aren’t going well for you, your hairy buddy can easily cheer you up by simply snuggling right next to you, asking you to pet him/her or giving you all the dog kisses you can get. Don’t be irritated if your dog does one of these things to you just because you are not in the mood to be around with anyone. Be grateful for what your fuzz ball of sweetness does to brighten your mood. The same goes for people who want to make you feel better – allow them to make you smile and laugh, even from the littlest of efforts. Appreciate the small stuff.
6. Fill your day with love and affection at all times.
No matter how your dog’s day is going, he/she will always be in the happiest of moods to provide you your daily dose of canine love (this includes pooch kisses and hugs, of course!). People should learn how to make the most out of their days by giving out positive vibes to the people closest to their hearts. Instead of coming home grumpy due to stress for various reasons, feel delighted to see your family and/or friends after a long day from work or school. Give these people some affection as well. This will improve both your and the others’ mood and make things sunnier for you instead.
