9 Songs That Will Probably Be Huge This Summer

Summer’s right around the corner. As is a bowling alley, depending on your precise location. Anyway, here are a few songs that (a. will battle for the highly coveted “song of the summer” or (b. will be huge in some other way:

 

1. Walk The Moon – Shut Up And Dance

Walk The Moon has been around since 2008, but haven’t gained mass recognition until very recently. Shut Up And Dance has exploded onto the airwaves over the past few weeks, and is pretty much a lock for becoming one of the 6-7 songs that your local hit radio station is guaranteed to completely ruin. It’s a light, up-tempo, feel-good song that lands somewhere in between Hot Chelle Rae and Panic! At The Disco.

Where You’ll Hear It: In an overly air-conditioned Abercrombie.

2. Zedd ft. Jon Bellion – Beautiful Now

Zedd’s new album, True Colors, was released earlier this week. With the Selena Gomez song “I Want You To Know” already garnering mainstream success, Zedd could have himself a double-helping of billboard eminence with Beautiful Now. Featuring the vocals of rising star Jon Bellion, Beautiful Now is (a. the sort of song that feels like its been popular for months already, (b. is probably currently blasting at the office of the next great startup.

3. Fetty Wap – Trap Queen

Trap Queen was actually released in April of last year. Thankfully though, the music powers that be ensured that Fetty Wap’s gem of a song get the proper airplay it deserves. Trap Queen, in addition to being one of the catchiest songs in human history, also has the uncanny ability to elevate your shitty day by at least two points. (In other words, if your day is currently operating at a disappointing 3/10, unexpectedly hearing Trap Queen will instantly elevate that number to at least a 5.)

4. Third Eye Blind – Everything Is Easy

While your twitter feed was trying to get you to read articles about pogs, Third Eye Blind released the first song off their upcoming sixth album. Everything Is Easy, while providing the familiar Third Eye Blind sound that fans have come to know and love, also doesn’t feel antiquated or past-prime — certainly a good jumping off point and momentum builder for their upcoming  much hyped about tour with Dashboard Confessional.

5. Nicki Minaj ft. Beyonce – Feeling Myself

An undeniable jam, brought to us by two women who, when powered together, are tough to challenge when it comes to the song of the summer throne.

6. Dark Lord Funk – (Uptown Funk Parody)

One of the best produced YouTube songs and videos out there, and probably the only Harry Potter-related media that makes you want to drop everything you’re doing and join the death eaters.

7. Britney Spears, Iggy Azalea – Pretty Girls

The perfect intersection of 2001 and 2014, and a song that you know you’re gonna hear quite often regardless of whether or not you think it’s good. It has almost 20 million views after less than a week on YouTube, so by the standards of RCA it’s probably pretty good.

8. OMI – Cheerleader (Felix Raehn Remix)

Cheerleader was released a few years ago, but a recent light and seasonally-fitting remix has found it’s way to the top of the music charts. The perfect match for the summer — one listen, and it’s as if you’re on the beach with one of those revivifying drinks with the min-umbrellas.
