We Need To Completely Stop Comparing Each Other. People Are SUPPOSED To Be Different.

As human beings, we need to stop comparing ourselves to one another. Recently, I have noticed a lot of my peers comparing themselves to those around them, and it’s causing nothing but negative vibes. Stop that.

You literally cannot compare two people because they have so many different aspects and quirks that make them completely unique and dissimilar. We are genetically made up of different stuff–how could we be the same as one another? Yes, people share similar characteristics and attributes, but no two people are exactly the same. Based on that principle alone, it shows you how silly we are to put ourselves down for not being or looking “as good as” someone else. If everyone in this world was all good at the same things and all did things the same or looked and acted the same, life would be boring and uninspiring, and quite frankly not worth it.

In relating this comparative mentality to art, we can see how silly it truly is. If two people are told to draw a self-portrait, you will end up with two totally different results. One person, for example, might draw an abstract portrait of an object they hold near and dear and that would indeed be a self-portrait because it is representative of them; for example, if someone drew the ring their grandmother gave them that they wear every day. The other person asked to draw a self-portrait could interpret it literally and draw a picture of his or her face. These are both self-portraits, they are both correct and beautiful, but it is completely impossible to compare the two because they are inherently different. The same goes for people.

We all have different aspects of our personalities or physical beings that are completely unique to us that no one shares. That is something worth celebrating, not degrading. Too often we see ourselves through someone else’s portrait. This view does nothing but skew our perception of ourselves and cause negativity. You are one person created from entirely different chromosomes and cells, and you have completely different interests, than any other person in this world. You will certainly find people that line up pretty darn close with your interests and talents (and maybe even looks), but you will never find anyone that is exactly like you. Physically speaking, it is also beautiful that there are so many different faces and bodies in this world. We wouldn’t be able to see beauty in anything if there was no variety.

We all need to realize that we were created to be completely unique, and we are supposed to all look different and be good at different things. It’s in our genetic makeup. Just because someone is taller than you does not mean they are better or more beautiful, and just because you can play guitar and they can’t doesn’t mean you are better. Constantly comparing yourself to someone else will do nothing but bring negative vibes upon you because you are fighting the way things are supposed to be. Everyone looks different, everyone is different, and that is a great thing; it’s a natural, normal thing. You’re great and completely and entirely you, and that is worth celebrating.
