On Seeing Your Life With Your Heart, Rather Than Your Eyes
“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye,” Antoine de Saint-Exupery writes in his book, The Little Prince, a timeless classic.
So many times we’re on a mission to find our life’s purpose, look for people and material things to fill voids that we feel inside, ask ourselves and others questions to which the answers never seem to arrive.
But what if the mission of our lives and the answers we seek so desperately have actually been right in front of us all along? Perhaps we are temporarily blinded by what we perceive to be “true” because we adhere to judgments others’ make and believe those we have created out of self-doubt and insecurity.
Because when we search for comfort, security, and fulfillment outside of ourselves, we feel lost when people don’t fit the molds we put them in or we don’t obtain the dream job we were so certain was ‘meant for us.’
The world feels harsher and the void inside deepens.
So you must learn to utilize the tools and gifts you possess so the inner eyes can guide you; the heart can guide you.
With that clarity and tranquility comes vision that can guide your next steps, fill those inner voids with self-love rather than self-loathing, and can reveal to you the true intentions that were placed in your heart way before you even entered into this lifetime. If we honor what we actually feel rather than what we think we “should feel or shouldn’t feel,” things become simple, more manageable, and it allows for solutions to navigate our path rather than always running into obstacles (that we have most likely placed there anyway).
This is not to say that each life situation is the same or that there are any one-size-fit-all solutions. Each of us has a cross to bear; sometimes one is weighted down more than the other. But we all share the common thread of being human — we all feel, think, act, sleep, eat, and breathe. This becomes a shared sympathy — knowing that everyone at this very moment who is living has their right to be on earth alongside of you as you have the right to be here, too.
Why not make the experience and time we pass in the here and now meaningful, authentic, and productive in your own way? Why not make the choice today to start seeing with the heart rather than your eyes? For when the heart is clear, our eyes are too.
