By Lance Pauker
According to the title of this article, you have multiple calendars. Good for you, sticking it to the cloud! Anyway, here are some movies coming out this fall that, among other things, will likely garner considerable Oscar buzz come 2015.
1. Nightcrawler

You may have seen clips for Nightcrawler about a week or two ago, when the first look started trending on Facebook. A lot of the buzz centered around star Jake Gyllenhaal and his “creepy, almost unrecognizable” turn as Lou Bloom, an ambitious freelance crime journalist looking to make his mark in the competitive, dangerous world of L.A “nightcrawling” — a new media-type profession in which independent videographers film crimes, and then sell the footage to major news organizations.
The screenplay has gotten considerable buzz, and has even been likened to a modern-day Taxi Driver. Definitely a thriller to watch, and perhaps the movie that could catapult Gyllenhaal into a captivating next phase of his career.
Release Date: October 17th
2. Gone Girl

I haven’t read Gillian Flynn’s thriller about a husband thrown into a media/suspect circus after his wife goes missing, but my sister recently did and the last time we spent a weekend together, she smartly abstained from socializing with relatives until she had in fact finished the book. She then spent the next few days raving about it, indicating with a Game Of Thrones fan-esque fervor that if you didn’t read the book, you were wrong.
Directed by David Fincher (Fight Club, The Social Network) and starring Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, and a number of others, this has been widely considered an early Oscar favorite.
Release Date: October 3rd
3. Whiplash

If you don’t already know Miles Teller, he’s poised to become one of the hottest young actors in Hollywood (next summer, he’s starring as the lead alongside Michael B. Jordan and Kate Mara in the newest Fantastic Four).
This movie cleaned up at Sundance, racking up both the Grand Jury and Audience Award in the dramatic category. In other words, both critics and non-critics deemed it the top drama. Which explains why the reviews thus far are overwhelmingly positive, praising both the fantastic work of teller and his ruthless drum instructor J.K. Simmons.
Release Date: October 10th
4. The Interview

A bit of a departure from the other three on this list (it’s not exactly Oscar-bait), but James Franco and Seth Rogen’s North Korean comedy has already drummed up quite the buzz and controversy. Co-starring alongside Rogen and Franco in this likely box-office hit is Lizzy Caplan, the Masters Of Sex co-star who is quietly becoming one of the most versatile actresses around.
Release Date: October 10th
5. Interstellar

Two of the biggest names in the movie business — Christopher Nolan and Matthew McConaughey — are coming together for this mysterious space epic, which according to the IMDB summary, is about “A group of explorers (who) make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.”
If you don’t see this one within the first few weeks or release, expect to feel incredibly left out during 60% of party conversations this November.
