This Is Why Social Media Is Poison

I only realised when my friend also took a picture with another famous player, that I tried to happy for him but I was mostly thinking that this could
have been me.

I am not necessarily glad that I felt this way, but this is the reality of the matter.
For a while this is how it felt like flicking through my timeline sometimes: Why is everyone getting more likes me than me? Why is everyone going to all these places and I’m just sat here bored? Why has everyone accomplished more than me? I’m not even going to start about boyfriends/girlfriends.

I can only imagine how it must feel for girls to constantly see other people’s and in particular, a model’s filtered photo on Instagram that had to be re-taken 10 times. This can have very serious implications for one’s self esteem. What I failed to realize is people will only ever post the good about themselves. Very rarely will people about how bored they are or how lonely they feel, on Facebook.

Just remember that, what people chose to post is extremely selective.

Despite the fact that I am now fully aware of this, it can still affect my mood subconsciously. It’s an addiction.

Multiple studies have shown that the more you use social media, the more likely you are to feel anxious.

I am sure that this affects people at different levels, but even if people say that it doesn’t matter, a part of them probably feels they missed out on something. I joined Facebook when I was 13, for people who have been exposed to social media since they’ve been 4, it’s probably a lot worse.

To me social media can be useful, but only if we can exchange ideas rather than showing off.
