20 Things You Should Thank Your Best Friend For—Like, NOW
By Katie Wilkes
My best friends are the reason I am able to get through finals week, the holidays, and any heartbreak. I’m lucky to have about five girls I can call at 2PM or 2AM with any complaint, request, or ridiculous fear and know that I will get off the phone feeling better than I did when I called. Whether she’s your neighbor you’ve known since age six, your might-as-well-be high-school sweetheart, or your newfound BFF from freshman year in the dorms, you should definitely thank your best friend for all of these things, like, today.
1.
Convincing you that his new girlfriend (who could probably be a Victoria’s Secret Angel) “isn’t even that pretty and has nothing on you.”
2.
Her closet.
3.
Letting you listen to the Taylor Swift album/any album on repeat no matter how much she hates it.
4.
Her boyfriend taking care of you like you’re his own when you’ve had one too many.
5.
Perma-froyo buddy.
6.
Super perma-crying buddy.
7.
Being on deck with a venti Starbucks and concealer stick on the roughest of mornings.
8.
Making your bed when you’re having a bad day.
9.
Treating your birthday like a national holiday from 12AM to 11:59PM. Every. Year.
10.
Being your at least one guaranteed Insta like/Twitter favorite.
11.
Kindly letting you know that your favorite boho/borderline thrift-shoppy dress should only be worn in the house.
12.
Letting you borrow those black shorts that might as well be yours by now without even asking.
13.
Texting your mom and letting her know you’re not kidnapped/dead/in any danger, just taking a six-hour nap.
14.
Always having a rubber band on hand (literally on her wrist) at the most pivotal of moments.
15.
Snapchatting you 47 times in a row so you can get your ex-boyfriend off your top best friends before anyone notices (ugh screw you, Saturday-night-Snapchat-happy self).
16.
Picking up the phone without fail every Tuesday/Thursday at noon because you have that awkward thirty minutes to fill between classes.
17.
Supporting your dream of becoming a musician and listening to your tone-deaf rendition of “Teardrops on My Guitar” for six months before she breaks the bad news that maybe American Idol isn’t the best idea.
18.
Always being down for a treat at midnight when you can’t sleep…from donuts to Domino’s.
19.
Giving you that pep talk you so desperately need, whether it’s before a final or a formal.
20.
Come hell or high water, you know you have her by your side. Being your top pick for bridesmaid. Being your person. Being your best friend.
