One of the reasons I love Washington DC so much is that it’s actually a super cheap place to visit. My friends and I spent one whole day in DC and only spent money on corn dogs and delicious New York-style pizza.
There is just so much to do in DC and you can do it all without spending a dime! Here is a list of free things to do in Washington DC that will excite both you and your wallet.
1. Tour the Monuments & Memorials
Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, and more. I recommend visiting them at night too!
2. The National Zoo
Known for its Giant Panda conservation and breeding program
3. The Bureau of Engraving & Printing
Offers free tours on a first come, first serve basis
4. National Air & Space Museum
So. Much. Spacestuffs.
5. The Museum of Natural History
See the famous Hope Diamond, among other engaging exhibits
6. Arlington National Cemetery
Pay your respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
7. The White House
You can sign up for a free tour through your States’ Members of Congress, but you must have reservations at least three weeks in advance.
8. Cherry Blossom Festival
See Washington DC coated in a blanket of pink blossoms
9. Walking Tours
Check out DC by Foot for some free walking tours. (Though tipping is highly encouraged)
10. The National Archives
See the actual Constitution of the United States
11. Smithsonian American Art Museum
The nation’s first collection of American art

See the actual flag that inspired the US National Anthem
