3 Crucial Things To Keep In Mind Before Quitting Your 9-To-5 Job
I can’t tell you how many millennials are sitting in their cubicles right now, staring out their window, wondering why the hell they are there. They are watching planes fly in the sky thinking that they should be on them.
They are sick of their 9 to 5 jobs. In today’s culture, the significance of a corporate “job” or “career” is quickly diminishing. It’s not because there is a problem, it’s simply because times have changed. With the Internet rapidly expanding we can’t even imagine being in one place for too long. It’s just not in our DNA.
We don’t just want a job we yearn for a vocation. We wake up believing that each day can be an adventure and that we can be financially supported by our dreams. Because it is possible.
If you are contemplating leaving to go and chase after that exciting vision of yours, or if you ever find yourself asking, “should I stay or should I go?” Then please consider the following …
1. It Just Might Not Work Out.
I hate to be the needle in your balloon of hope and desire, but hear me out. You may quickly take that leap and faith and find that it’s not at all what you expected. Although it is indeed possible that you may very well succeed, it’s also possible you may very well fail. Don’t get me wrong I am an extremely optimistic person, so why do I say this? Some people live by the saying, “jump and the net will catch you.” I say, “jump and there may be a hole in your net.” But if you never jump then you’ll never know. As the most successful people will tell you, most of the time our greatest failures are necessary to achieve great success. Please – before you start consider the risks.
2. Are You Truly Ready For The Demands Of Success?
“Whaaaat? Of course I am,” may be your initial reaction. Seriously though, think about it. More often than we may realize people can’t handle the success once it arrives. Unless you have a solid foundation, you may not be able to service all that could come your way. Get all your ducks in a row. Get the right people around you. Make sure you have an emergency exit strategy set up if you get stuck. Don’t be afraid of the time it’ll take you to set all this up. Hear me when I say you have time. Although it may seem as if you don’t – you do. Be ready, be locked and loaded.
3. Start Before You’re Ready.
I know it may sound contradictory to what I said above, but with all that being said, there are some of you out there that will spend years making sure you are fully “ready”. There is no such thing as 100% prepared or ready. It’s easy to want to make sure everything is perfect before you begin. I beg you, don’t fall into this trap of perfection.
You’ll never have “enough” followers, you’ll never have “enough” ideas/content, and you’ll never feel secure “enough”. Start. Every single day do one thing that will bring you closer to getting out of your current situation. I promise you as you soon as you start making progress (even if it’s just coming up with your mission statement) you won’t nearly be as tired of your job because you know there is a light at the end of your tunnel.
Remember, too, that gratitude is the gateway to new opportunities and possibilities.
There is no way you are going to break free and start a business on your own if you aren’t grateful for what you currently have. Sounds simple, I know – I am just reminding you. I also know what it feels like to be stuck. I’ve been there. I’ve asked, “Is this all there is? What if it doesn’t work out?” What I know for sure is I started to “bloom where I was planted”. Meaning, I did the best I possibly could where I was at – while silently working my butt off towards my dreams at night. And little by little I started to grow and grow and before I knew it – I was on my own, living life on my own terms. You will too. Go get em’!
