This Was How I Lost Myself In You
By Cath Pascual
It wasn’t the first time I looked at you,
but as if it was the first time
I saw the sun set,
I mingled with time
to memorize every part of you.
That crinkle in your eye
when you flash your crooked smile;
A small crease on your forehead
when your emotions fill your head.
And I found myself,
standing,
already lost
lingering your imperfections.
But I wasn’t lost.
You leveled with my eyes
and saw your eyes
held everything that would make me
want to hold your hand.
You held out your hand,
said to take it
as we approach the sand.
And as if it was the first time
I’ll see the sun rise,
I lost the battle I long despise:
my feelings I once held in disguise.
