What Depression Looks Like
Depression wears many different faces. It is unique to every person. Some days are lighter, others heavier, but nevertheless, it’s always there.

I sit here with the taste of you
Still on my lips
The smell of you
Still fresh in my nostrils
Is there some plan
That is beyond me
Or is this just a reminder
To not take things for granted?
Your whisper is like a ghost in my mind
The subtle inflection haunting my brain
Calling to me in the night
Each and every word dragging me back
To the place I’m trying to escape
I see the pain in your eyes
The pain you’re trying to push down
With every sip of that drink
I have those days
More than I would like to admit
Days where I’m ready
Ready to go to sleep and not wake up
Death reminding us how fragile it is
Love reminding us how beautiful it can be
Time reminding us to not take it for granted
It is just as important to acknowledge your strengths as being able to identify your weaknesses.
Love should be a safe place
It should be a sanctuary
A place that restores
Not a place that depletes
It feels different today
Lighter
Happier
There is a weight missing
That was here yesterday.
