As doctors, we are beseeched to do our best to care for all patients equally, no matter how we feel about them as people.
The problem is that there is a discrepancy between what the moment is and what I wish it is. For all the peace, solitude and majesty I’m provided, this moment is not special and I desperately want it to be.
It felt like a real “third world” hospital moment.
Aside from the fact that my observations at Northwestern have led me to believe that physicians aren’t particularly more compassionate on average than those people outside the profession, I always like to point out that doctors in America are a fungible commodity.
When it comes to morality, the person I most resemble in this world is a remorseful heroin addict.
