Chrissy Teigen Hilariously Shut Down This Tweet Criticizing Women For Not Taking Their Husband’s Last Name
It’s been American tradition since the country began: when a man and a woman get married, the woman takes on the man’s family name. But what some people don’t realize is that it’s not actually a worldwide tradition. In fact, there are many cultures where women keep their family name and it’s considered status quo. So why is it such a big deal that there are some women who just don’t want to change their last name?
So when one Twitter user decided to ask for the reasoning behind women who won’t take their husband’s last name, she probably didn’t expect the vast number of responses she got.
I'd really like to hear the reasoning behind women who won't take their husband's last name

The whole thing became a huge debate about why women should or shouldn’t take on someone’s last name, with plenty of people asking why it even matters.
What's wrong with my name?

Absolutely nothing. But what's wrong with his that you don't want to take it when you get married, yano?

My name is my name, his name is his name

A lot of women came up with incredibly valid reasons to why they decided to keep their last names, including the history behind the practice and their love of their own family name. Besides, let’s be real — why does anyone need a reason to keep their own name?
it would feel like losing a part of myself. Also why should I take his and he not take mine .Who created this tradition ?Men did🚮

Because no one can eclipse my sun honey. You must step to the side and stand beside me and not in front of me. My equal not my owner.

But perhaps Chrissy Teigen said it best when she revealed the reason why she didn’t take John Legend’s name when they got married.
my husband didn’t even take his last name? https://t.co/BMo6OsgcVv

That’s right — John Legend’s last name isn’t even Legend.
