Communication Should Not Be Mysterious
By Gina Clingan
Why has society normalized the act of wasting your energy on reaching out to people who don’t even acknowledge your efforts? Why has it become socially acceptable to be miserable, and endure immature behavior from people who aren’t worth your time, and no longer serve a fulfilling purpose in your life? Why have fake smiles and empty gestures become the foundation upon which so many modern relationships are built?
You should only keep people in your life because they mean something to you; You genuinely care about them and value their presence. If they don’t feel the same about you, leave them alone. Delete them on social media. Delete their number. Remove yourself from their orbit. Don’t waste your time. Stop with the polite friendships and relationships. Either a person matters, or they don’t. Either they care about you, or they don’t.
See, here’s the thing:
Communication should not be mysterious.
You should not have to wear yourself out trying to achieve communication with someone. It should not be a chore. It should not be forced. You shouldn’t have to beg for it. You shouldn’t have to spend sleepless nights talking to your bedroom ceiling, and everything beyond, asking for a text back, or some form of validation that the other person actually cares about you.
Communication is not a game. You shouldn’t have to bend at awkward angles to decode it or walk on eggshells to maintain it. You also shouldn’t have to constantly initiate it. Communication is a two-way street. Their effort should match your effort. If their effort is nonexistent, then the truth of the matter is, so is your friendship or relationship. If you choose to stay anyway, then, unfortunately, so is your self-respect.
It’s okay to let go of who is no longer fulfilling their purpose in your happiness.
It’s okay to outgrow people.
It’s okay to finally
choose yourself.
