4 Things That Donald Trump’s Unexpected Victory Taught Us All
By Farah Ayaad
As President Elect of the United States of America, Donlad Trump, takes office in 13 days, we need to remind ourselves of what his winning the elections really means.
1. Mobilizing Fear Effectively Can Force Change
Trump proved to us that fear indeed is the greatest force for change. There is a healthy way of dealing with fear and there is a dangerous one. People who know how to deal with their fears are in control of those fears not controlled by them. Meaning, they don’t allow things to get the best of them. They see at this situation at hand as an opportunity for personal development and spiritual growth. They look at the bigger picture and they always look ahead. They challenge themselves, test their ability to do that one thing they are afraid of doing. They take a leap of faith, they are risk-takers. They allow their fears to turn them into better people. Braver. Stronger. Richer.
2. To Understand The World, We Must Understand Power
We are always taught that if we work hard enough for what we want in life, we will get it. Maybe there is something truth to that but from the standing point of the average person, that statement is not a reality. Power enables those who have it and disables those who don’t. The world is becoming more about who we know and how much we have instead of who we are and what we have. There are so many of us out there who are convinced that money means power, privilege means power, being an asshole means being powerful. And that being vulnerable, kind and empathetic means being weak. Maybe accepting people for who they are and embracing diversity means we are powerful because we are striving to create a place for all instead of being busy constructing a place for a few. Maybe power is within, shared with the rest of the world. Maybe power is in you and me. Maybe power is you and me together.
3. Creating The Right Strategy Leads To Success
If you have the right people with the right resources on your team, you have everything you need to succeed in life. Surround yourself with people who you have a common ground with, a vision. You cannot do it alone and you need people who will be there for you and support you from start to finish. We all need some sort of support system in all of the stages of our lives to get to where we want to be. The need might differ accordingly but it will always be there. We also need a plan that meets us where we are so that we can get to where we want to be. We often have the right plan but not the suitable one that will actually make a difference; a plan that creates an impactful change while delivering the desired outcome.
4. Being Likable Is Everything
And what I mean by that is not telling people what they want to hear or doing what they ask you to do. I mean being likable by others and by yourself. Nothing sucks more than fitting into people’s picture perfect and not finding your place in this world. Treat people with respect. Listen to them when they speak. Appreciate what they bring to the table. Allow them a free and safe space for them to be who they are. Inspire people to be who they are by being a living example of it. Care about people, about how they feel, and about their well-being. We all want to be remembered for the good we created and for what everything we brought to life. We all want to matter. Let’s all matter again.
