Everything You Need To Know About The New Moon In Capricorn

By

It’s one of my favorite times of the lunar cycle: the New Moon. Not only is it the New Moon today, but it’s the New Moon in Capricorn – my own astrological sign.

This is an exciting time for the Sea Goat: the Universe is shining on us! This spotlight on the hardworking Capricorn is a relief- especially during a winter slump. It seems the year has been going pretty slow, hasn’t it? Many of us started out 2018 with high hopes, only to find we’re exactly the same as we were in 2017.

Good news! The New Moon represents the start of a new lunar cycle and symbolizes new beginnings. Just think, if the moon is responsible for moving oceans, the ocean tides, and the growth of plants, imagine the effect it can have on us humans! The powerful energy of the moon gives us an opportunity to start new, set intentions, and focus on our hopes and desires.

The New Moon is a time to shed limited beliefs, past habits, and let-downs to make way for what we’re really set out to do. Finding our purpose is one of life’s greatest challenges, but the New Moon assists with setting our intentions, helps us hear what our is heart telling us, and encourages us to tap into the people we are meant to be.

Tapping into the energy of the powerful New Moon can help support your hopes and dreams, speed up the manifestation process, and give you a point of reference to see what you need to work on for the next New Moon! During the day of the New Moon, I like to spend time in nature, meditate, and truly tap into what my heart is telling me.

Am I limiting myself?

Am I following my heart on my current path?

Am I settling for less?

Clearing out any dense, limiting beliefs is a huge theme for this New Moon. As a Capricorn, I would like to step into the structured, stable Sea Goat and less of the go-with-the-flow, dreamer Sagittarius (I’m on the cusp) that I have embodied for so long. Believing that I didn’t “fit” in certain environments or with certain people has held me back from opportunities, but as a new person each and every day, I am trying to bash that belief and open up to unlimited possibilities.

A New Moon ritual is the perfect way to celebrate this powerful lunar cycle, clear your energy, and set a clear intention for the upcoming month. I believe in the power of writing down thoughts, dreams, and goals, so I recommend getting a special notebook for spiritual journaling- even if it’s just a few thoughts every day. You’ll be amazed at the progress you’ve made once you look back at your days, months, and year!

To get started, you’ll need:

White Sage

Your favorite crystal

Pen and Paper

Candles or incense

First, make sure you’re grounded.  I typically clear my “sacred space” prior to any meditation or ritual; I make sure the room is zen and void of any distractions, I am comfortable, and have everything I need in order: sage, crystals, pen and paper.

Next, cleanse your space. Light your white sage wand just enough for the end to burn, and slowly wave the smoke throughout your room, over your body, and around your crystals. This will help absorb any negativity and old energy clinging to your aura.

I like to light incense or candles during my rituals, too.  As you sit and breathe, focus inward; focus on your heart. After 5-10 minutes of meditation, listen to what your subconscious is telling you.

Now, write down three intentions for the upcoming month.  Think about what you want to let go, what your short term goals are, and what you would like the next month would look like. There’s no wrong answer! Listen to what your heart is telling you, and let it guide your intention.

After writing down your intentions, be sure to keep them in a safe place where you can go back and reflect on them each day. I also like to set out my crystals to absorb the energy of the moon.

Keep your crystal close with you throughout the month. I recommend using small stones you can keep in your pocket or a bracelet to wear as a reminder.

This month, I wrote down my intentions in three places- my wall calendar, my day planner, and in my journal. There’s no way I can forget if I continually see it! Of course, as a believer in the benefit of writing things down, I can’t help but be a little superstitious when honing in on this power (when we envision it, we create it!).

Remember, each and every day you are new. This New Moon symbolizes the hope for tomorrow, the beauty of yesterday, and the serenity in the present moment. No matter where in the world you are on this New Moon in Capricorn, be sure to get outside, breathe in the fresh air, and appreciate the beautiful world around us.

When you view the world as a magical place, magical things will happen. We just need to open our eyes and believe.
