Family Accidentally Buries Teenager Alive After Thinking She Was Killed By A Demon

Imagine how it would feel to wake up from a long rest and realize you were buried alive. You might begin by rubbing the sleep out of your eyes, then realize it is completely dark. You feel around, and realize you are enclosed in a box just big enough to fit your body.

What do you do next?

This, or something similar, is surely was 16-year-old Neysi Perez experienced after being buried alive by her family in Honduras.

Perez, who was pregnant, allegedly fell to the ground after experiencing a panic attack. While unconscious, however, she began foaming at the mouth and her family contacted a local priest to examine her. The priest believed that she was possessed with a demon, and attempted to perform an exorcism on her. The exorcism failed and Perez was taken to the hospital soon after and declared dead.

She was buried in a wood coffin incased by a concrete tomb.

The day after being buried, Perez’s husband visited her grave. It was then that he heard intense banging and muffled screams coming from inside the tomb. He immediately called the rest of the family to the site.

Desperate family members used hammers to break open the grave, but alas, they were too late. By the time they broke through, Perez had experienced her final death. According to her cousin, there was extensive evidence that Perez tried to escape her tomb:

“She had scratches on her forehead and bruises on her fingers. It looked like she had tried desperately to get out of the casket and hurt herself.” (Source)

The family blames the hospital for their daughter’s death, saying that they did not take the proper time to ensure that Perez was actually dead.

“The doctors declared her dead but everybody else around me kept telling me she wasn’t. She didn’t look like she had died. Even after a day in the tomb the colour of her body was normal, her corpse didn’t smell, she just looked like she was in a deep sleep. There was no rigamortis, her body was still flexible, it was impossible that she had been dead for so many hours.” (Source)

The family feels cheated, coming so close to a second chance with someone they loved. This time, however, Lazarus did not walk out from the tomb.

“We were all so happy,” Perez’s mother said, “After being declared dead for such a long time, everybody was saying that she had come back to life. We were all so happy. I thought I was going to get my daughter back.”
