Forget About Your Forever Person, Find Your Forever Job

Every morning when you wake up, you should be excited about the hours ahead — but it doesn’t have to be because of a person. You don’t have to look forward to climbing downstairs and cooking breakfast together. About trading stories and exchanging kisses before parting ways for the day.

You can be excited about other aspects of your universe. About getting dressed and getting to work. About chasing after your dreams. About following your prophecy. About living out your purpose.

Instead of searching for someone who makes you feel complete, find something that makes you feel complete. A career. A hobby. A passion.

You should live a life where you are excited about Monday through Friday instead of eternally waiting for the weekend to come. You should create a world where you are happy all of the time, not only a small percent of the time.

To feel fulfilled, you should search for something to give your universe meaning. And that isn’t a person. That is a passion.

Forget about finding your forever person, because you can’t force someone into a relationship with you. You can’t force feelings when they aren’t there. It doesn’t matter how many dates you take to dinner or matches you make on Tinder. You can’t control whether you meet the love of your life tomorrow or two years from now or thirty years from now. That is beyond your power.

But you have complete control over your career. You are able to control whether you follow what your gut says or choose the comfortable option. You are able to control whether you take a risk or settle. You are able to control whether you send out applications, enter contests, and climb the career ladder or keep waiting for a better moment.

When it comes to love, timing matters. But when it comes to your career, there is no perfect moment.

Now is the time for you to switch your major, for you to post your work online so it is seen, for you to start stepping closer to your dream job. Don’t wait until you get better at your craft. Don’t wait until you feel ready, because you are never going to feel ready. You are always going to have an excuse to procrastinate. You are always going to have reasons to wait just a little longer.

Stop wasting precious time searching for your forever person, because they will come along when you least expect it — but your forever job? That isn’t going to be dropped onto your lap.

You have to work your ass off to reach your destination. You have to put in the work. Put in the hours. Put in the effort. You have to want it more than anything. You have to try harder than you have ever tried before.
