Go Ahead And Take That Leap Of Faith
By Anish Das
All your life, you have been told that it’s important to have a secure life. And according to most of the people, that is what matters the most: Getting a good job, settling down and having a comfortable life….
You look around and see people taking that safer route, living a happy life and you start to think that’s not a bad life after all. You have a comfortable place to live in, you are able to pay your bills on time and you can take a vacation every year. What else do you need to be happy? Well it’s certainly a very comfortable life, but is this really what we are after? We have got this one life, why not do something which makes you happy from the inside and not from the outside. Something which makes you want to get up in the morning and go to work, something which makes you look forward to the next day.
In everyone’s life there comes a time where you are at a crossroad and there are two choices. One which everyone tells you to take and the other which you always wanted to take. And let me tell you, this is going to be the most important decision of your life. This may come in the form of which degree you opt for, which college you go to or whether you decide to do MBA or follow your passion. And once you have decided your life is going to get difficult, no matter which route you decide to take. But there’s a difference. If you decide to follow your passion, your struggle will be to get better at your job everyday and ultimately achieve the goal which you have always dreamt of. And you’ll enjoy each and every moment of it. Whereas if you don’t follow your passion then every day will be a struggle, getting through each day will be a task. I’ll give you an example.
Steve Jobs had once said in a speech that, “I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself, if today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today? And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I knew I need to change something.”
You might say, maybe I should wait for a few years then I’ll do it. Once I get a degree I’ll follow my passion, at least I’ll have something to fall back upon if it doesn’t work out. If this is how you think then it’s never going to happen. Even before starting you’re thinking about failure, then how are you going to succeed? You’ll realize what you have missed out on only when you see someone else living their dream and relishing each moment, as if there’s nothing in this world that can make them happier. Always remember, it’s not the things you did, but the things which you didn’t do that hurt you more. You can’t really say whether your life would be better or not but at least you’ll die knowing that you tried. At times you need to remind yourself that I don’t have to do what everyone else is doing. Don’t let small minds convince you that your dreams are too big. So go out there and make that dream come true. Don’t be afraid to dream a little bigger.
