How Being More Mindful Will Benefit Your Overall Happiness

By

Do you ever feel like you just aren’t understanding what is going on around you? Almost like you are missing something? Well, instead of constantly being confused, let me tell you a secret about mindfulness and it may solve half of your problems.

Before getting into how to be mindful, we must first define it. One may often consider it a form of “meditation” or just being aware of one’s surroundings, etc.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines it as: “The practice of maintaining a nonjudgmental state of heightened or complete awareness of one’s thoughts, emotions, or experiences on a moment-to-moment basis.”

Mindfulness ultimately is being receptive to what is surrounding you and what is within. If these two aspects are ignored or dodged, it conclusively makes life problematic. Being mindful leads to healthier relationships and a healthier mind. There are a couple of easy things I do to keep mindful in every situation I am in.

First, always be aware of your actions and how they affect those around you. Pay attention to how they are acting and how they respond. Paying attention to body language and verbiage are easy ways to read someone. This way if something is going wrong, you are able to openly ask and/or steer the situation in a more positive way or you will simply be aware of what is truly happening.

Second, it is crucial that you are aware of your innermost emotions. Emotions are tricky, especially when someone can possess so many at one time. Life is a rollercoaster and is nothing but imperfect. Being aware of your emotions not only makes you more aware of yourself but helps when sticky situations arise.

Have a little philosophical session with yourself on who you truly are and how you truly are feeling. I promise that this, in the end, after getting over all of the muck, is beneficial. I will emphasize on being aware of your feelings!

Mindfulness is tricky, especially when you are not used to it. Being more mindful leads to a more positive life that will not only benefit you but everyone surrounding you. Be real with yourself and others.

Life is a never-ending rollercoaster, and being able to recognize the twists and turns and ups and downs will only benefit you.
