How Do You Nourish Your Soul?

How do you nourish your soul?

I think we nourish our soul with art. With music, with film, with television, with dance, with theatre, with paintings, with photography. When we see a story playing out before our eyes, it changes us. Sometimes the shift is huge, and sometimes it’s subtle. But whether we realize it or not, we carry those stories with us as we navigate through this world. Art feeds the soul. It nourishes our senses so that we see vibrancy instead of shades of grey. It allows us to see beauty where we couldn’t before.

Perhaps we nourish our soul with nature. When you stand on the beach and wiggle your toes in the sand as the sun hits your face, that’s nourishment for your soul. When you get lost on a hike in the woods with nothing but you and the trees, that’s nourishment for your soul. When you stop and stare at the magnificence of sunrise and/or a sunset, that’s nourishment for your soul. Nature is nourishment.

How do you nourish your soul?

Let the simple things in life, like food, feed more than just your belly. Think about the joy that comes from a freshly brewed cup of coffee—that’s nourishment. Think about a slice of New York City pizza that’s come straight out of the oven—that delight you feel, that’s nourishment. Think about your favorite dessert, the meal you share with your loved ones—that’s nourishment. Nourishment for our bodies, when done properly, feeds our soul, too.

How do you nourish your soul?

I think the greatest nourishment for our soul is love. Love feeds our hearts, our minds, and our souls in a way nothing else can. Through love, we know that we are seen, that we are cared for, that we are heard. When we know and feel that we are loved, we are able to love for other people, too. Love is the greatest gift we can give to ourselves and to one another.

When you feed your soul with love, and art, and nature, and the simple joys that life can bring, your nourishment knows no bounds.
