How To Learn To Let Go

How does it feel to have all the words in the world with nothing to say?

Life will always keep moving, so of course, you have to move with it. But what if you’re not ready? What if you don’t want to? It seems as if my legs are moving but my mind is at a standstill. Numb to say the least. You do what you need to do in order to get through the day, and once you’re done, you’re left with everything that you’ve been hiding from — the thoughts and the silence.

If there were a pause button in real life, I think we all would have pressed that thing at least a million times. Newsflash, there is no “pause” button in real life. I know everyone has been told “Put yourself first” at least once in their life, so why haven’t you? Ultimately, we care if everything else around us is in order before we truly allow ourselves to focus on ourselves. It seems as if we never truly get a break from anything.

There are times when I have so many things buzzing around in my head that I stop everything I’m doing and have to take a timeout for myself because I don’t know where to start. It makes me feel disorganized and there have even been times where I am so fed up with life that I want to drop everything going on. But that’s not smart. You know it and I know it.

Create personal days. I call these “me days.” A personal day is pretty self-explanatory, but it is basically a pause button on your own terms. Take time for yourself to decompress and reflect on everything going on in your life. A lot of the time we get so caught up in everything that we sweep everything under the rug until it resurfaces again. Things don’t ever just go away. Some may disagree with me, but I thoroughly believe that things will always have their way of coming back around unless you deal with it. This could be something that you have to work out with another person or even yourself.

I have an old friend that used to describe himself as a meter. Little by little, things would spontaneously happen and his “meter” would start to fill up. He’d be able to hold down so much until he just couldn’t deal with it and would explode, figuratively. It is up to you to take the next step to create a peace of mind. Don’t ever drive yourself to madness when it is avoidable.

Take time to yourself for yourself. What I mean by this is take moments of your day to step back and realize what you need at this moment. Need some peace? Meditate! Need to release anger? Work out! With every problem comes a solution. Whatever is suitable for you, do it! Find ways to create your happiness.

I understand things are easier said than done. Sometimes I tell myself that everything is black and white. We tend to add in all of these factors that result in the grey. Take out all those factors and things are that simple. Everything is what you make it.

So what are you waiting for? What will you do about it?
