I Really Want To Play Rollercoaster Tycoon
By Michael Koh
Do you guys remember RCT? Well, if you don’t, that really sucks for you. This game sucked hours out of my life — my eyes were glued to the screen, my head lost in the maze of paths, queue lines, and roller coasters. The intro song will send me back to when I was using Windows ME on my Hewlett Packard desktop with 128mb of RAM, and probably less than 48GB of hard drive. I soldiered on, defeating each scenario with determination and grit, until I decided it was time to build my own park. I downloaded an editor and created a completely flat park, owning each and every single parcel of land, set entry fee at $0, and built it from the ground up. Coaster after coaster, themed section after themed section, I toiled on, hiring crews of mechanics and handymen to keep the park running, micromanaging them to keep efficiency at 100%, hired entertainers and placed them at long queues. Eventually, I would throw unhappy and poor guests into a small pool of water I’d later come to call “Dead Pool” not knowing there is a Marvel character named Deadpool. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to watch this video.
