I Won’t Dial Down My Personality For You

Sure, I can be a little loud sometimes, a little overexcited. I wear my heart on my sleeve, but the people that hold me dear love that about me. I laugh over the smallest things and I’ll go into a rant about a topic I’m passionate about until we’re completely sidetracked. I’ll give advice where it’s not needed, and yes, that may be my Earth sign tendencies, but I will always be that person that lifts others up and encourages them to believe in their beauty.

I may be all these things and more, and sometimes, it can be a little too much for some to handle; but I’m true to myself, and I can say that with 100% confidence.

If you go through life dimming your personality down to fit into the ideals of the outside world, at some point in your life, you start to become quieter when they criticize your voice; you feel self-conscious that your laugh doesn’t sound as soft as you’d like it to be in the background of your friend’s video recording; you become embarrassed for acting silly because it’s a little too much for others to handle. You are surrounded by unattainable and unrealistic beauty ideals, and not only in the physical sense. The right way to act and behave in social settings according to your age is drilled into our heads like we can never truly just enjoy ourselves.

But you know what? I won’t dial down my personality for you. I’m going to talk as fast as I want, cry whenever I feel like it, wear Converse with every outfit, and scream from excitement if that’s what I want to do. I’m going to indulge in the magic of the world with or without people looking at me differently, because unless they have something positive to offer, their opinions are completely irrelevant. I’m coming out of my shell and embracing myself for everything that I am. I’m an excited, bubbly, energetic soul with so much love and light to give, and there’s no way I’m dimming that for anyone.
