If You Really Want Something, Your Actions Must Speak For You
By Chris McFaun
There are things in our lives that we all want.
We want a “perfect” body. We want to have a fun and stable relationship. We want a lot of money. Those are some of the obvious things that everyone wants.
There are other personal things we want in our lives. If we are dealing with mental health issues, many people would like that to go away or at least make it more manageable. If there is a certain job opening that someone is interested in, then we have to show interest and put in as much work as we can in order to make sure we put ourselves in the best position to get the job. If you’re unhappy with the person you are or the person you’ve been in the past, then you have to seriously commit to changing instead of just believing that you will change.
You have to put in the work. Period. There is no other shortcut to get what you want in life. Believing that something will come your way is nice, but the reality is that you have to prove that is something you want. We can’t just keep telling ourselves that things will get better and we will get what we are searching for if there is no work put in. It’s important to have faith that things will change, but nothing will change if there is no real effort in what you are pursuing. It just becomes a continuous cycle of wanting change and believing things will change. In order to break that cycle, you must act on your words and thoughts.
Actions are what bring changes. Not words. It’s okay to express that you want something. In fact, that might bring extra motivation because you already put it out there and there are people that are looking forward to seeing you get what you are trying to achieve. However, our actions always reveal what we want and what we settle with.
If your goal is losing weight, you can’t keep the same diet and expect to lose weight. If your goal is to get a promotion, you can’t just mope around and hope that your boss will recognize your hard work and overlook the other employees. If you really want to talk to someone, you can’t just hope they come your way and initiate a conversation. If you want to break a bad habit, then you have to put in an effort to eliminate tempting thoughts that will cycle you back into your bad habit.
Putting in the work is not fun. It sucks. But if the reward outweighs the grind, then it’s something you should go for. Words and promises can create inspiration, but actions create your reality.
