Freelancing (emphasis on “free”) is a kind of Hell that only a writer could endure. Not only are freelancers typically underpaid but they sometimes wait six months to a year to see any payment. I feel their pain. I once received a ten dollar paycheck eight months late. I also interned for a magazine for three months under the promise of a travel stipend but never got it. So for three months, I essentially paid them money to work. The idea for a “Crying Invoice” is genius. You invoice your boss and when they open the envelope, they can hear the depression that is your life. It’s the little things, isn’t it?
