I’m Not Sorry That My Views Make You Uncomfortable

By

“Oh, I thought I did.”

That’s what you say.

You think that I don’t understand what you’re doing.

But I’m not as

Dumb

Young

Naive

Or ignorant

As you think.

I know what you’re doing and you do too.

Don’t act innocent.

“Oh, I thought I did.”

I’m not here to play your games.

Your 60+ years of knowledge and experience.

Your 60+ years of getting exactly what you want.

Your 60+ years of never having to challenge a single belief that you hold.

Your 60+ years of no one holding you accountable for how you act.

Your 60+ years of being comfortable.

“Oh, I thought I did.”

I’m not sorry that my different way of thinking makes you so uncomfortable that you have to come at me and what I support with lies and disbelief.

I’m not sorry that when I try to educate you that you still need a source of information explained to you.

I’m not sorry that you feel you have to pretend to read something so that you can dismiss it and hold tightly to your white supremacist propaganda as if that flash means more than the substantive material I provided to you.

Did you read it?

“Oh, I thought I did.”

No you didn’t. Be honest.

You’re not

Dumb

Young

Naive

Or ignorant.

So don’t pretend to care about my best interest.

I know you want to tear down what I believe.

I know you want me to go back to being

Quiet

Submissive

And unaware.

“Oh, I thought I did.”

I’m not sorry that it scares you that the world might change before you die.

It must terrify you to consider that

You will have to give space to others

You will not get to be comfortable everywhere you go

You will be held accountable for what you say and do.

Tough to wrap your mind around, isn’t it?

“Oh, I thought I did.”

Go ahead and keep playing.

Because you have the luxury of this being a game.

But I’m going to keep fighting for those who know it is not a game.

You can’t shake my beliefs because I believe in humanity.

You are not going to take that from me.

Oh, I thought I COULD.

I’m not handing over my morality.

I am not sorry if that makes you scared of me.
