I’m Praying For The New Taylor Swift, But Not For The Reason You’d Think
By Kri De Asis
Dear Taylor Swift,
I don’t know if you will ever read this, but I just want you to know that you were my hero. You became a significant part of my life the moment I heard “Teardrops on My Guitar” on the radio when I was in college. Like a lot of “Swifties,” you took everything that my heart was feeling and put them into wonderful songs.
As the years went by, you changed, and even your songs changed. I kept waiting for another song with a country vibe that spoke about love, but all I found was anger. A lot of anger.
Right now, I just want to pray for you. I’m not praying for you to be the sweet, innocent country girl again. A lot of things happened since then. I’m just praying that you would stop being so angry.
No matter how many songs you write about your haters, and the traitors, and the cheaters, they are never going to stop. They are just going to find another stone to hit you with. I pray that you’ll just ignore them and focus on your music. Focus on your fans. We’re still waiting for beautiful songs from you. We still love you despite everything that happened and no matter how much you’ve changed.
Replace your anger with love. Don’t let yourself become so hard because of what the world is doing. Be better. Be stronger. Stay soft. Keep that part of yourself that still has hope for this world, and loves life because of both the good things and the bad things happening.
A lot of your songs saved my life and kept me moving forward in this often cruel world. Focus on that. Keep writing more songs. I’ll be waiting for you to write songs about love again. Until then, I will be praying for you. I hope you find light in this dark world again. Better yet, I hope that you become the light that the world needs. It needs more of that. You have the power to make things better – to make the world better. You are one of those people who can make a difference. I believe in you.
