Ivanka Trump Got Brutally Roasted And Booed At A Women’s Summit In Germany

Oh, Ivanka. When you were invited to an international summit on women entrepreneurship in Berlin, you probably should’ve seen the criticism coming. I sure did, and I’m just the girl who scrolls through Twitter to get the latest deets on whatever the hell is happening in this world anymore.

Ivanka arrived in Germany on Tuesday morning to attend the summit alongside German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other notable women. It’s a pretty high honor, but things quickly took a turn for Trump when was asked what exactly it meant to be the first daughter.

WirtschaftsWoche editor-in-chief Miriam Meckel, who acted as the moderator, wanted to clear up Ivanka’s role within the White House: “I’d like to ask you, what is your role, and who are you representing, your father as president of the United States, the American people, or your business?”

It seemed like Ivanka didn’t truly know either when she responded, “Certainly not the latter. I’m rather unfamiliar with this role as well.”

Oof. Not a great start. And it only went downhill from there.

Ivanka called herself a feminist and claimed she was doing her best to empower women in the economy, but the women at the summit were pretty skeptical. At one point, Meckel asked Ivanka to address her father’s attitude toward women, which seemed less than empowering. When Ivanka defended her father, she was met with boos and hisses.

“I’ve certainly heard the criticism from the media and that’s been perpetuated, but I know from personal experience and I think the thousands of women who have worked with and for my father for decades when he was in the private sector are a testament to his belief and solid conviction in the potential of women and their ability to do the job as well as any man.”

Agree to disagree?

It’s no surprise that the crowd was angry at her responses, especially since her father isn’t exactly a champion for women. Not only is his own cabinet lacking in women, but he’s also had multiple sexual assault allegations against him and has been recorded saying some pretty sexist (and terrible) things. Now that’s something I’d really like to hear her address.
