‘Legally Blonde 3’ Is Officially In The Works

By

Legally Blonde fans, rejoice!!! It’s officially been 17 years since the movie first hit theaters, but the story of our favorite lawyer doesn’t end there. Karen McCullah, the writer of Legally Blonde, confirmed yesterday on Twitter that a third movie is definitely in the works.

While few details have been confirmed, MGM is currently working on a deal with Reece Witherspoon to reprise her role as Elle Woods, the sorority-girl lawyer who proved that she was more than the “dumb blonde” she was stereotyped to be. Witherspoon, however, may not even have the time with her slew of upcoming roles, including the next season of Big Little Lies, the TV miniseries Little Fires Everywhere, and the upcoming movie Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.

Still, even if Witherspoon finds herself too busy to come back as Elle, we’re sure the writers will still create a lovable sequel to the classic rom com. After all, McCullah and her cowriter Kirsten Smith were also responsible for House Bunny and 10 Things I Hate About You, the latter of which I’m still convinced is an utterly perfect movie. I would watch a movie about a leaky faucet if they were the ones who wrote it, and I’ll stand by that claim forever.

Honestly, this is the kind of movie we need now more than ever. In the world of #Time’sUp and #MeToo, we need a woman warrior to look up to. According to Deadline, the third installment of the Legally Blonde franchise will focus on female empowerment, something we need now more than ever. And if you don’t think millions of women (and men!) aren’t going to flock to the theater to see this one, you’re very, very wrong.
