When it comes to other rare events that can have destructive consequences on our lives, we aren’t shy about preparing for them. We have fire extinguishers, disaster preparedness kits, insurance because we know there are things in this world outside of our control, and being prepared for them gives us confidence. So why do so few of us have a plan for unexpected violence?
As a generation, we have a reputation of being narcissistic, entitled, and slow to “grow up.” We might as well take it a step further, make our lives a little easier, and put our diapers back on.
However, instead of traveling the globe, creating beautiful works of art, or sharing groundbreaking ideas with society, over the last 5 years I found myself spending months at a time drinking Bourbon out of a plastic bottle while playing Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 on a PC.
Don’t be lazy.
Aging is not the horrible experience it is made out to be. With age, you become wise. With wisdom, you unlock your capacity to give something to someone other than yourself.
Through change, we discover who we are and our potential to be more than we previously were.
