Read This If Your 2018 Had The Highest Of Highs And The Lowest Of Lows

2018 is a year worth writing about. Why, you may ask? Well, 2018 was a period of newness, realizations, lessons, love, and heartbreak for most of us. During this time, many of us experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.

A year ago you never would have imagined yourself traveling to the other side of the world with your best friends. You never would have imagined yourself going on a first date for the first time, falling in love for the first time, living in a house for the first time. 2018 taught you lessons that will probably stay with you for the rest of your life, and if any of these resonate with you, then keep reading.

2018 showed you that those who truly love you always have and always will, no matter the distance. You had to learn the hard way that not everybody who promises to stay will, and that no matter how much you appreciate someone or care about someone, if they are not meant to be a part of your life for the long run, there is no fooling destiny. You learned that some people are key components in your growth and that it does greatly matter who you surround yourself with. This year you may have created some of the strongest bonds with people you have known your entire life or with people you have known for a couple of months, but you may have also lost people you thought would be there forever.

This year you got to sincerely take in the value of friendship and you understood a little better why time is not as important as it seems. During this period, you most likely got a glimpse of your purpose. That realization that you are alive for a reason and that at the end of the day, you have to chase that feeling of fullness on your own. You also learned that there is a whole world out there, waiting for you to explore it.

Did you fall in love this year? If you did, I hope you experienced a happiness you had never felt before, like some sort of magic. I hope you felt loved, respected, appreciated, and beautiful all at the same time. Before that person, you probably didn’t think you could be so open, caring, and affectionate. I bet they taught you things you didn’t even know about yourself. Maybe they also broke your heart and taught you about heartbreak and betrayal. I’m sorry if you experienced all of its side effects, the denial, the anger, the chasing, the nightly dreams, the loss of appetite, the unbearable pain. The kind of pain that gets you thinking that it won’t get better.

If you had love and you lost it, I hope that from it came the desire to love yourself, the realization that what you needed the most was yourself. Maybe you started writing more, reading more, dancing more. Maybe you decided it was time to start surrounding yourself with the right people. Maybe you got closer to your friends and family and you focused more on working towards a brighter future and on working on a better you.

This year was full of ups and downs, but overall I hope from the bottom of my heart that it has made you extremely excited for the future. You might be healing still, but you are strong — stronger than you thought. 2019 will be your year, I can already see it.
