Read This When You Feel Like You’ve Been Forgotten

By

Everyone wants to be remembered. We want to be at least recognized by the people around us, by the people we love. We want them to remember how we looked last night, because we dressed up so well. We want them to remember the things we said, because we meant every single word we breathed out.

We want them to remember which between coffee and sugar we put first in our cup. We want them to remember our favorite movie or our favorite song. We want them to remember our likes and dislikes, so when we come to visit them, they know what to do and what not to do. We want them to remember the great things we did. We want them to remember the biggest and even the littlest sacrifices we did for them.

We want to be remembered, by the wrinkles on the sides of our eyes when we smile down to the remarkable squeaky sound of our shoe sole when we enter the room. We want to be remembered and that’s just the way we are.

But I believe that there will come a time when all of us are dead. No one will ever bother about what you looked last night, what you whispered on your breath, what’s your favorite coffee or movie or song because soon, none of these would even matter.

The face of the earth will be wiped out and everyone’s down to their last breath. There will come a time that new people will live on earth. No one will remember anyone. No one will remember Einstein and his contributions to Science.

There will be no one to remember Martin Luther and his contributions to building our faith. No one. No one will remember the time he broke her heart or the length of time she wasted on him. No one will remember your A- in your Physics class or the D in your Calculus quiz. There will be no one to remember your mistakes and your life achievements. No one will remember you and no one will remember me.

That’s the funny truth about life. It demands more than what it gives. The fear of being forgotten is certainly what all humans have in common. And we all believe that being forgotten seems to be pretty awful. But life also teaches us that oblivion is inevitable. You will live a life full of miseries and felicities. You will come, see and conquer. You will die. You will become ashes once again. And you’re done.

Should you fear death instead? Nope. I don’t think so. We do not know when exactly earth will be wiped out. It may be tomorrow, or next year or million years from now. But one thing’s for sure and that is it will end. I believe that what is most important is that we seize every day, every hour, every minute, and every second we have; may it be with the people we do not really like or the people we dearly love.

Life is too short to waste our days regretting our past and worrying about our future. Your life is too precious to worry about being forgotten, honey remember that. Once we come to enjoy and live life with no regrets, we’re good to go. Oblivion is nothing more than the dirt under your shoe. We should not fear being forgotten because all of us will be and [for me] that’s fair enough.
