Selena Gomez’s “Good For You” Is This Year’s “Summertime Sadness”

In Selena Gomez’s new video “Good For You” the singer channels Lana Del Rey while lazily hanging around her house looking bored, waiting for her lover to come home, so she can show him just how much she’s missed him.
“Gonna wear that dress you like, skin-tight // Do my hair up real, real nice” … “I just wanna look good for you, good for you // Let me show you how proud I am to be yours // Leave this dress a mess on the floor”, Selena coos in smudged black eyeliner, throwing her hair back repeatedly in a wet t-shirt, letting her beau know she is Ready. And. Waiting.
The song reminds me of Lana’s 2012 hit “Summertime Sadness”, in the moody, melancholy way Selena moans about missing someone and anticipating their arrival while sitting on diamonds and doing her hair. Is “Good For You” going to be the sad girl love song of 2015? Check out the video below.
