Sitting In The House Isn’t Going To Help You Get Over Him
You’re allowed to mope about your breakup — or your almost relationship ending or your crush getting into a relationship with a girl who isn’t you. You’re allowed to release your emotions, to struggle with your emotions, to bask in your emotions.
Of course, you don’t want to be miserable forever. At some point, you have to make the choice to move on. You have to decide you’re not going to stew in your loneliness anymore. You have to get out of bed, get changed into an outfit that makes you feel your most confident, and get your butt out of the house.
Watching old episodes of your favorite shows on Netflix is a good distraction for a little while, but that’s all it is, a distraction. It might make you smile and laugh and forget about your problems — but it’s probably not going to help you heal. It’s probably not going to get you back on your feet again.
Sitting around the house isn’t going to help you get over him. That doesn’t mean you have to schedule date with other boys. It doesn’t mean you have to order drinks at the bar while making eye contact with someone cute. You don’t have to get back in the dating world if you’re not ready — but you do have to get back in the real world.
You have to meet up with friends. You have to invite your family over for a homemade dinner. You have to walk your dog down the block and feel the fresh air on your face. You have to remind yourself there is a life outside of this boy you lost. There is an entire world for you to see — and you don’t need his hand to hold while you see it.
If you want to get over him, you have to explore this universe on your own. You have to spend your weekends doing something fun. You can’t switch between working and sleeping, sleeping and working, without any leisure time in between.
If you fool yourself into believing the only way you can be happy is with a boyfriend then you’re making yourself miserable for no reason. You have to remind yourself you can still go out and have fun without a boyfriend. You can go ice skating or bowling or mini golfing. You can go to a paint class or a poetry reading or a trivia night at a bar. Pretty much anything you could do with him, you could do with your friends — or you could do on your own.
Sitting in the house isn’t going to help you get over him, so get outside. Run a mile. Walk your block. Lounge at the beach. See a movie in an actual theater. Do whatever you have to do to remind yourself this world is huge. There are a million things to do. There are a million sights to see. And there are a million boys who would love to date you now that you’re back on the market.
