The Things I Wish They’d Said

sun soaked letters
with your aura inscribed
span my floor this summer night

with last summer gone
and you no longer here
two less eyes will read tonight

i wrote the first letter
and asked for your heart
you wrote back “my lovely, of course”

this summer night
two tired eyes
open your letter, your words inside

already knowing what I’ll find
i open the letter, you on my mind
wishing you would have wrote the truth that night
