The ‘This Is Us’ Creator Made A Movie That’s Just As Heart-Wrenching As The Show

If you’re a This Is Us fan, then you definitely know what it’s like to go through an entire box of tissues in the single hour it takes to air an episode (with commercials, of course). It’s probably this emotional connection with the storyline that keep us coming back for more. What can we say? We might be a bit masochistic, but there’s something so earnest and lovely about the show’s characters.

Well, if you loved the heart-wrenching moments of the show, you’re definitely going to love its creators’ new movie, Life Itself, which already has a trailer that’s got me a little teary-eyed.

The movie stars Olivia Wilde and Oscar Isaac as a couple who falls in love with New York. You know they’re going to be a pretty central part of the emotional arc when the first words out of Isaac’s mouth in the trailer is this heart-pounding monologue:

“Abby, I’m waiting for the right moment because when I ask you out, there’s not going to be any turning back for me. I’m not gonna date anybody else for the rest of my life, I’m not gonna love anyone else for the rest of my life. I’m waiting for the right moment because when I ask you out, it’s going to be the most important moment of my life, and I just want to make sure I get it right.

Yeah, it’s going to be that kind of movie.

According to IMDb, the film is about a young New York couple, from early romance to marriage to the birth of their first child, and “the unexpected twists of their journey create reverberations that echo over continents and through lifetimes.” What they really mean by that is this: you are going to cry your eyes out and you’re going to love every second of it. Don’t believe me? Just watch the trailer, where it’s obvious all of the characters are going to be thrown into turmoil.

The movie also stars Mandy Patinkin, Annette Bening, Antonio Banderas, Olivia Cooke, Laia Costa, and Samuel L. Jackson, so you know it’s gonna be good. In fact, according to Wilde, the script itself is pure gold.

You’ve got to admit, that’s a great compliment coming from such a seasoned actress. All the more reason to go see it the second it’s released!

Life Itself will be available in theaters on September 21.
