This 6-Year-Old’s Letter To Obama About A Syrian Refugee Will Absolutely Melt Your Heart

Alex, a 6-year-old boy from New York, wrote a letter to the President that has gone viral since its release. Alex wrote the letter after seeing the distressing photo of a bloodied and dazed Syrian child refugee named Omran Daqneesh.

Omran’s picture became a heart-breaking symbol of the loss and suffering that is occurring in Syria and the impact it has had on civilians. In his letter, Alex asks the President to bring Omran to his home so that he can make him part of his family.

Alex writes, “Dear President Obama, remember the boy who was picked up by the ambulance in Syria? Can you please go get him and bring him to (my home?) Park in the driveway or the street and we will be waiting for you guys with flags, flowers, and balloons. We will give him a family and he will be our brother.”

President Obama read from Alex’s letter at the United Nations summit on the refugee crisis this week. He said:

“The humanity that a young child can display, who hasn’t learned to be cynical, or suspicious, or fearful of other people because of where they’re from, or how they look, or how they pray, and who just understands the notion of treating somebody that is like him with compassion, with kindness – we can all learn from Alex.”

In a world where the son of the Republican nominee for President is comparing Syrian refugees to poisoned skittles it is heart-warming to see that a young boy who can find such love and kindness in his heart. Donald Trump Jr could certainly learn a thing or two from Alex.
