This Absurd Anti-Feminist Movement (Started By Men) Has Women Hopping On The Bandwagon Too
Just when you think the world can’t possibly get anymore effed up, you log onto Twitter and realize, yet again, society is doomed.
What am I talking about? “Meninism.” What is it? It’s a men’s rights movement to ensure that guys are treated equally to women.
I repeat: it’s a men’s rights movement to ensure that guys are treated equally to women. Because if there’s any group out there that needs equality, it’s men. And white men, especially.
Groan.
According to some mouth-breathers out there, feminism is destroying the country. It’s doing awful things like giving women rights over their reproductive systems, working toward closing the gender pay gap, and giving women the necessary protection they need in regards to sexism, sexual harassment and sexual assault.
Just writing that sentence out made me realize that maybe the meninism supporters are on to something! I mean, why would we want any of that?
Double groan accompanied by an eye roll.
Thanks to the Internet, Twitter specifically, the movement is making some ground and now supporters are sporting #meninist T-shirts, because the world is a scary place.
And while it’s easy to assume these people are just mouth-breathing dudes who are dealing with some serious self-esteem issues — hence the reason for their anger — the sad reality is that women are jumping on the bandwagon, too.
Women are posting photos of themselves in their T-shirts with the oh-so original “Feminists Are Ugly” hashtag, and if that weren’t upsetting enough, the Meninist Twitter account has over 900,000 followers who think joking about rape and domestic violence, among other things, is just so funny.
Supposedly, it’s a parody account, so you can’t get too mad! And if you do, you’re just proving that feminists don’t have a sense of humor, because obviously laughing about sexual assault is really fun. Super fun, you guys!
As a feminist, I’m offended by this movement. But then again, as any meninist will tell you, feminists are always pissed off about something, so I guess we can’t be surprised, right?
But in all seriousness, this is a problem. Women saying that they don’t need feminism was a problem, and now this takes that whole mentality even further.
Any woman who honestly believes that she doesn’t need feminism is clearly uninformed as to what feminism means, and I feel intensely sorry for her.
Any man who also thinks that he doesn’t need feminism, and that he somehow needs to have his rights protected, is an entire species of insane that should probably be studied in a lab somewhere.
Everyone, man or woman, black or white, atheist or Christian, needs feminism. If a society is to truly thrive, it needs to treat everyone equally, and I can tell you right now that men have it in the bag when it comes to rights.
Exactly when was the last time a man was told what he can and can’t do with his body? I forgot. SOMEONE REMIND ME.
I’ve always believed in the theory of live and let live. You do you and I’ll do me, and that’s that. But the problem here is that this thinking is dangerous. People joking about rape is dangerous, and it just feeds right back into rape culture.
Meninism is a perfect example that our society is not evolving, but going backward in its thinking.
Are we really going to think this way in 2015? Is this what the world is coming to? If so, sign me up for the next space shuttle.
I don’t want to live in a world where guys are crying about not having enough rights, and women are sitting around agreeing with them. It would definitely make for a funny Amy Schumer skit, but after that, it’s just a whole boatload of sad.
