To The Person Marrying My Best Friend

Do you honestly know what you’re getting yourself into?

If you bobbed your head up and down, or mouthed a sincere yes… on the contrary, I hope you don’t. Because if you do, what’s left to discover and learn from, right?

I’m honestly not the best person to talk to about marriages, given the obvious that I haven’t even thought of settling yet… but if it’s an adventure that you’re about to take with one of the most amazing girls in my life, I can definitely tell you more than a handful of things you can expect.

If I am to describe the kind of relationship she can give, the only word that I could think of is “constant”. I guess it’s best to say that she’s a keeper… because she will be there for you as long as you won’t give up on her. She knows when you need her the most and she’s never the first to walk away when things get hard. I have a number of things I wanted to ask from you, but to sum it all up… all I want is for you to stay and always be with her whatever the future holds.

She’s a wonderful woman and there’s no doubt about that, but she’s nowhere near perfect. You have to understand that tough times and arguments somehow will be present in your marriage, but please be patient with her. Keep in mind that if they ever grace your way, it’s not you versus her… or who is right and who is wrong. It’s always going to be the both of you against all the things that will threaten to ruin your relationship.

Love her flaws, because that’s what honed her into the person she is right now. She can be difficult and opinionated at times, which only proves that you are marrying a woman who knows how to handle herself. Someone who wouldn’t even be daunted at the sight of hardship. As I’ve told you, there will be times that she’ll fight with you… but mostly she’ll fight for you, for your marriage and for your happiness. She’s a strong woman and a beautiful one at that.

So now that you’re off to marry my best friend, I hope you realize how lucky you are because you have found yourself a heart that will only see the best in you no matter what the odds are. You have found yourself a rare gem that will hold your hand through the unpredictable waves of this lifetime. Someone that will adore you at your highest points and will unconditionally love you at your lowest states.

Just be happy with her. Never neglect her and always remember that the both of you function as one now moving forward. She’s a part of you as much as you are a part of her. Do not stop falling in love with each other. Grow together and live the life the both of you had always dreamed of. Each other’s voices should always be heard, and never ever forget to listen to what one of you has to say. You’re a team now. Every decision made is another brick that builds your marriage, and it’s up to the both of you on how strong those bricks will hold you together.

I can attest to the fact that she’s at her happiest when she’s with you… and I’d like to thank you for that. Thank you for giving the love my best friend deserves. She has endured an unimaginable amount of heart aches in the past and I’m just glad you took part in patching her pieces back together. You know how much I love her, so please take good care of her. I expect you to keep loving her and giving her the happiness that the others failed to do so. You’ve made her a better person and I couldn’t imagine a better match.
