7 Things To Do Tonight If You’ve Been Working Really Hard Lately
By Kara Nesvig
Did you have a really long, no-good day today?
Are you totally exhausted from head to toe and want to pass out for a couple days to recuperate? Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.
If you’ve been working really hard lately, or just need a boost, treat your damn self! I know it’s become a cliche (and it totally has!) but on days when I’ve worked ten hours of retail on my feet, all I want to do when I get home is pour a big glass of red wine from the Bota Box and pamper myself so my sad, worn out body forgives me for what I’ve put it through. Here are my favorite products for such a momentous event.

1. I am addicted to LUSH Bath Bombs.
I love Twilight (calming lavender) and All That Jas (jasmine, duh) most, but each one is special and makes every bath a big deal. Some of them even tint the water! Add whatever bubble bath you have on hand and get yourself in the tub. (If you don’t have a bathtub, borrow one from a friend.) Add your favorite albums or playlists; I like Janet Jackson’s “Velvet Rope” and Madonna’s “Ray of Light” right now. Trashy books are good too, like Jenna Jameson’s “How to Make Love Like a Porn Star” or anything Jackie Collins. I demand you soak for as long as you can. Refill the tub if you want! Tonight is all about YOU, baby. Soak all your cares away … wait, did I steal that from Calgon?
2. I rarely ever take one of those cliche candlelit baths.
Actually, I never do. But I love, love, love filling the room with candles when I feel like an exhausted piece of shit. My favorite are Bella by Illume, easily available at your local Target. (I recommend Coconut Cedarwood and Black Orchid & Amber.) I like amber and vanilla scents because they smell cozy and warm. They make every room smell just a little more luxurious. Don’t forget to blow them out before you fall asleep!
3. Face masks are the ultimate in “treat yourself” nights. Everyone loves slathering them on — EVERYONE.
Mario Badescu makes some of my favorites, but the classic Queen Helene or Freeman’s varieties you can get for under $5 are great too. I got my brother really into the weekly mask routine, and if he can do it anyone can.
4. While you’re at it, do a hair mask.
(Dudes, unless you have long hair this probably doesn’t apply to you.) Moroccan Oil makes my favorite fancy one, but the Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Mask is an excellent drugstore option.
5. Treat your feet.
I generally avoid Bath & Body Works stores like the plague because the smell is so overwhelming and most of their products smell like dreck to my fancy lady nose, but I really love their True Blue Spa line, especially where my retail-working feet are concerned. When I get home from an incredibly long shift, I like to soak my poor, tired soles in the Effervescent Foot Soak and then coat them with whatever heavy lotion I have lying around. The Malibu Beach scrub is awesome too, especially right before an at-home pedicure.
6. Jameson.
Or wine. Or a beer. Or even a root beer float. Have a drink or a treat. You want ice cream? Have it.
7. Sleep.
Sleep is the best medicine for pure exhaustion. Get as many hours as you can. You’ll feel so much better in the morning, promise.
